Attilio Carmagnani "AC" Spa
It is our duty to work with due respect for the preservation of the environment, our health, our work, our future, our collective well-being, and the safeguard of social relations.
We are one of the first Italian companies to have adhered to the voluntary Responsible Care Program, with which we undertake to manage our activities, those related to the storage of chemical products, implementing constant improvements in the level of safety, health and environmental protection, within the scope of our activities towards employees, suppliers, customers and the community.
Our Integrated Management System (IMS), which complies with international quality and environmental standards for occupational health and safety and for the prevention of major accident hazards, drives us to improve continuously. The Integrated Management System is certified according to UNI ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018. Furthermore, since April 2014, we have adopted the Organisation, Management and Control Model 231/2001 with the establishment of a Supervisory Board.
Environmentally hazardous and flammable chemicals and petrochemicals are stored in our Coastal Storage Facility, and, for this reason, it is classified as a ‘major-accident hazard as an upper-tier facility’ under Legislative Decree 105/2015 (‘Seveso’ Law).
Legislative Decree 105/2015 represents the national implementation of the third edition of the ‘Seveso Directive’, a European directive issued in 1982 after the major accident that occurred in Seveso in 1976. The aim of the directive was to overcome the limitations of an albeit complete and articulated technical regulation in the field of safety and accident prevention by introducing the concept of a ‘Safety Management System’.
The decree establishes the company’s precise legal obligation to implement and constantly update an internal management system, aimed at the prevention of major accidents, based on principles that support and reinforce the technical tools used by the company in its operational management. In particular, the company defines roles and responsibilities within its organisation to ensure the effective management of the following areas:
To comply with the decree, we drew up a Safety Report (approved by the competent authorities) in which, following an in-depth analysis of risks and software simulations, potential areas of damage were defined, all within the perimeter of the terminal.
We strive to prevent and reduce risks to employees and other stakeholders who may be exposed to hazards associated with the company’s activities, and to protect the environment and the public.
